National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has declared that the opposition party would not be reduced to a “special-purpose vehicle” for the presidential ambition of any individual ahead of the 2027 general election.
Dickson made the declaration amid growing political realignments and speculations over the party’s emerging influence as a major opposition platform ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ engagement in Abuja, the former Bayelsa State governor said the NDC was founded to build a sustainable political institution driven by collective ideals rather than personal ambition.
“The NDC is not a special-purpose vehicle for any human being,” Dickson said, warning against attempts by powerful political actors to hijack the party for narrow interests.
He stressed that the party’s leadership was committed to internal democracy, inclusiveness and grassroots participation, adding that the NDC would resist efforts aimed at turning it into a one-man political structure.
Dickson said the opposition platform was focused on institutional growth and long-term national relevance, insisting that the sacrifices of party members and aspirants would not be ignored.
The senator also disclosed that the party was developing an electronic voting system for its internal primaries, describing the initiative as part of broader reforms to modernise Nigeria’s political process.

According to him, future NDC primaries would increasingly rely on digital technology to guarantee transparency and wider participation of members across the country.
The development comes as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, with several politicians and interest groups reportedly seeking new political platforms amid internal crises within existing parties.
Dickson, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) earlier this year, has positioned the NDC as an alternative opposition force capable of attracting dissatisfied politicians and grassroots supporters across the country.
