The Chinese government has formally announced that United States President Donald Trump will embark on a state visit to China from May 13 to 15 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The announcement was made on Monday by China’s Foreign Ministry through spokesperson Guo Jiakun, confirming weeks of speculation over a possible high-level meeting between the leaders of the world’s two largest economies.
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, both leaders are expected to hold extensive discussions on bilateral relations and major international issues affecting global peace, economic stability and security.

The visit will mark Trump’s first official trip to China since his return to the White House and his first meeting with Xi in Beijing since his 2017 state visit during his first presidential term.
International media reports indicate that key issues expected to dominate the talks include ongoing trade disputes between Washington and Beijing, tariffs, tensions surrounding Taiwan, artificial intelligence regulation, global supply chains and the Middle East crisis involving Iran.
Reuters reported that U.S. officials are also expected to raise concerns over China’s continued purchase of Iranian oil amid growing tensions in the region. Discussions may also cover possible Chinese purchases of American agricultural products and aircraft as both sides seek to ease economic frictions.
Chinese authorities have meanwhile described the upcoming meeting as an opportunity to stabilise relations between both countries at a time of heightened geopolitical rivalry.
In a statement carried by Chinese state media, Beijing said it was prepared to work with the United States to bring “more stability” to the international community.
