President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s internal security coordination and intelligence operations.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
According to the statement, signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations, Chris Ugwuegbulam, the appointment was conveyed in a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana.

The Presidency said the appointment reflects the Tinubu administration’s commitment to enhancing intelligence-driven security operations, improving inter-agency collaboration, and addressing emerging security threats across the country.
Major General Fadewa, who retired after more than three decades in military and intelligence service, is widely regarded as an experienced security strategist with expertise in counter-terrorism operations, intelligence coordination, and international security diplomacy.
During his tenure as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021, Fadewa reportedly played a key role in developing Nigeria’s intelligence coordination framework.
The statement noted that he led the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre at the Office of the National Security Adviser, an integrated intelligence platform designed to facilitate collaboration among major security agencies, including the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces.
Following his retirement from active service, Fadewa served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, where he focused on issues relating to policing, civil-security cooperation, and national security reforms.
He is also credited with authoring a monograph titled Policing and National Security in Nigeria, which examines strategies for strengthening collaboration between civil institutions and security agencies.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the retired military officer would bring his experience and strategic expertise to bear in advancing the administration’s homeland security objectives.
The President also urged Fadewa to support the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda through improved intelligence integration, proactive risk management, and enhanced coordination of national security initiatives.
