Tinubu’s Intervention Shifts Security Tide as Bala Mohammed Declares Forests Bandit-Free

March 22, 2026

A renewed federal security push ordered by President Tinubu has begun to reshape the security landscape in Bauchi State, with Governor Bala Mohammed declaring that bandits have been flushed out of forest enclaves across the state.

The governor made the disclosure during the Eid-el-Fitr Durbar at Rilwanu Suleimanu Adamu Square in Bauchi, pointing to what he described as the outcome of coordinated operations involving the Nigerian military and other security agencies, particularly in the previously volatile Alkaleri axis.

The development follows weeks of heightened concern over attacks in communities such as Mansur and Gwana, where armed groups had operated with increasing boldness, forcing authorities to escalate response measures.

Mohammed said the tide turned after intensified interventions backed by federal directives, which strengthened troop deployment, intelligence gathering and inter-agency coordination.

“Today, I can confidently say that there are no bandits harbouring in any forest in Bauchi State,” he said, attributing the outcome to sustained military pressure and improved surveillance.

The governor’s remarks signal what appears to be a turning point for Bauchi, where insecurity in remote forest areas had threatened to deepen into a broader crisis. He commended security agencies for executing what he described as a decisive push, while urging residents not to relent in supporting authorities with credible information, warning that maintaining the gains would require continued vigilance.

In a notable political tone, Mohammed, a member of the opposition, acknowledged the role of President Tinubu in facilitating the intervention, underscoring a rare moment of bipartisan alignment on security. He said the federal response demonstrated the importance of collaboration across political divides when addressing threats to public safety.

Beyond security, the governor used the occasion to reflect on his administration’s nearing end, appealing to residents for forgiveness over any shortcomings recorded during his tenure.

“As my tenure gradually comes to an end, I find it necessary to seek your forgiveness for any wrongs, knowing fully that no human is perfect,” he said, while pledging that ongoing projects in healthcare, education and infrastructure would be sustained through the remainder of his administration.

Also speaking, the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Suleimanu Adamu, commended the improved security atmosphere and urged residents to uphold unity and peaceful coexistence. He stressed that lasting stability depends not only on military action but also on justice, fairness and community responsibility.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to working closely with traditional institutions, describing them as critical partners in sustaining peace and preventing a relapse into insecurity.
