Nigeria’s President, Ahmed Tinubu, is set to arrive at Windsor Castle on Tuesday for a three-day state visit to the United Kingdom, during which he will hold high-level discussions with Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Scheduled for March 17 to 19, the visit marks Nigeria’s first full state visit to the UK in over 50 years. The programme includes ceremonial events, diplomatic engagements, and meetings with members of the Nigerian diaspora, Prime Business Africa reports.

Preparations on Monday will focus on security measures, road closures, and rehearsals for the ceremonial procession in anticipation of the president’s arrival.

On Tuesday, Tinubu will be welcomed by Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales. A formal ceremony along Datchet Road will feature the playing of national anthems and a guard of honour inspection. He will then travel in a carriage procession to Windsor Castle, where he and the First Lady will meet King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

Tuesday’s programme also includes a 21-gun salute, a state luncheon at St George’s Hall, and bilateral meetings with UK officials covering trade, security, migration, and port development. The evening will feature a cultural showcase of Nigerian artefacts, culminating in a state banquet hosted by the British monarch.

On Wednesday, Tinubu will have a private breakfast with the King and Queen before heading to London. Activities in the capital include laying a wreath at the Cenotaph, bilateral talks and a working lunch with Prime Minister Starmer at 10 Downing Street, as well as engagements with the Nigerian diaspora and the signing of bilateral agreements at Buckingham Palace.
