APC Rules Out Replacing Shettima as Tinubu’s Running Mate

January 26, 2026

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed speculation that Vice President Kashim Shettima could be dropped as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

In a statement on Friday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described the reports as “purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless.”

He accused unnamed sources of spreading rumours aimed at creating confusion in the polity.

“The stories circulating about a possible replacement for the Vice President are baseless and misleading,” Morka said.

“We urge media organisations not to amplify rumours from mischievous sources whose only intention is to promote discord and confusion.”

The APC said it is focused on supporting the current administration’s agenda, including its Renewed Hope programme, economic reforms, and policies aimed at improving living standards.

Morka also warned party officials and government ministers against making statements that could fuel speculation. “We call on our ministers, senior government and party officials to avoid, wittingly or unwittingly, stoking needless speculations, and to concentrate on diligent service to government and our party,” he added.
