Bandits Sack Oke-Ode Yoruba Community In Kwara, North-Central Nigeria

October 4, 2025

Residents of Oke-Ode community in Kwara State’s Ifelodun Local Government Area have abandoned their homes following a deadly bandit attack on September 28, which left 13 people dead, five kidnapped, and scores injured.

The community leader, Alhaji Ganiyu O. A. Bello, described the situation as “pathetic and devastating,” with about 90% of residents fleeing in fear of further assaults.

Prime Business Africa reports that, during a condolence visit, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq commiserated with the community, praising security forces, forest guards, and vigilantes for repelling the attackers.

The governor promised to look into the community’s requests, including deploying security agents and rehabilitating the Igbaja-Oke Ode-Shegbe road.

The community has raised concerns over allegations that the head of the vigilante team, Mr. Victor, withdrew guns from local security volunteers a day before the attack. Governor Abdulrazaq immediately invited two vigilante leaders, who denied the claim.

The Kwara South Youth Congress has called for a state of emergency in the state, citing worsening insecurity and over 200 kidnappings since January. They urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and stabilize the region.
