In line with the meter price deregulation scheme, different DisCos listed various prices offered by accredited vendors.

The deregulation, which took effect on May 1, 2024, was designed to ensure that meter prices will henceforth be determined through a competitive bidding process among authorised vendors, allowing customers to choose their preferred Meter Asset Provider. Under the scheme, MAP permit holders can operate across all Distribution Companies in Nigeria, subject to compliance with DisCo-specific technical requirements.
Analysis of the latest prices shows that Ikeja Electric and Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) have the highest prices for prepaid meters.
Ikeja DisCo’s prepaid meter prices (effective 6 August 2025), covering both single-phase and three-phase meters (VAT inclusive), vary by manufacturer.
The price of a single-phase meter ranges from ₦133,000 to ₦150,000, while three-phase meters cost between ₦219,000 and as high as ₦260,000.
According to the revised price published on its X handle, MBH Power Ltd’s one-phase meter costs ₦135,987.50, while the three-phase costs ₦226,825.00. Turbo Energy Ltd’s one-phase costs ₦145,608.75, while the three-phase costs ₦236,903.13.
Aries Electric Ltd’s one-phase costs ₦145,125.00, and the three-phase costs ₦258,000.00. Mojec Asset Management Company Ltd’s one-phase costs ₦135,718.75, and the three-phase costs ₦226,825.00.
One-phase meter for Paktim Metering Nig. Ltd costs ₦137,600.00, while the three-phase meter costs ₦233,275.00. Holley Metering Ltd’s one-phase meter costs ₦133,854.03, three-phase meter costs ₦219,497.09.
CIG Metering Assets Nigeria Ltd’s one-phase meter costs ₦150,500.00, New Hampshire Capital Ltd’s one-phase meter costs ₦133,300.00, and the three-phase meter costs ₦231,125.00.
While some vendors maintained previous prices, others reduced them. For instance, CIG Metering Asset, which pegged its single-phase meter at N161,250 in November 2024, reduced it to ₦150,000 as of 6 August 2025. Also, another vendor – New Hampshire, single-phase meter came down from ₦140,825 to ₦133,300 and from ₦232,200 to ₦231,125 for three-phase.
The power utility firm said the prices are subject to meter availability under the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) scheme.
For Eko DisCo, a single-phase meter costs between ₦136,000 and ₦148,000, while a three-phase meter costs between ₦227,000 and ₦257,000, depending on the vendor.
Meter vendors listed by Eko DisCo include GOSSLINK (₦140,825.00 for single-phase, ₦230,050.00 for three-phase); G-UNIT (₦138,643.01 for single-phase, ₦233,816.80 for three-phase); MOJEC (₦135,987.50 for single-phase, ₦226,825.00 for three-phase) MBH (₦135,987.50 for single-phase, ₦226,825.00 for three-phase); KELM (₦134,375.00 for single-phase, ₦231,125,00 for three-phase); QAUNTUM (₦148,308.44 for single-phase, ₦256,973.70.
The Kano DisCo’s latest prepaid meter prices list, effective from August to October 2025, shows that three-phase meter prices range from ₦210,000 to ₦255,000.
Kaduna also released a list of new prices for prepaid meters, with single-phase ranging from ₦129,000 to ₦134,000 and ₦209,000 to ₦233,000 for three-phase.
Benin DisCo charges consumers between ₦128,000 and ₦139,000 for single-phase and ₦214,000 to ₦248,000 for three-phase meters.
For Enugu DisCo, the price of a single-phase meter is ₦136,000, while a three-phase meter is ₦227,000.
For Ibadan DisCo, the price of single-phase ranges from ₦129,000 to ₦142,000, while three-phase ranges from ₦214,736 to ₦226,000.
For consumers under Yola DisCo, a single-phase meter costs ₦150,000 while a three-phase meter goes for ₦233,000.
Abuja DisCo also updated its prepaid meter prices (effective from August 2025) with single-phase sold between ₦120,000 and ₦138,000 for single-phase and ₦203,000 to ₦228,000 for three-phase.
The latest price of a single-phase meter at Aba Power is ₦120,000, while a three-phase meter costs ₦247,000.
At Jos DisCo, single-phase ranges from ₦120,250 to ₦132,000, and three-phase meter is between ₦203,500 and ₦215,250 (VAT exclusive).
Port Harcourt DisCo’s single-phase is between ₦128,000 and ₦135,000, while three-phase ranges from ₦215,000 to ₦228,000.
Just like the electricity tariff hike, many Nigerians have continued to lament the high cost of acquiring a prepaid meter, even as it statutorily remains a property of DisCos.
Reacting to the new price list by the DisCos, an X user queried why they shifted the responsibility of paying for prepaid meters to customers, even when there is no clearly stated repayment plan.
Apart from the high price, others have expressed concerns about long delay in the delivery of prepaid meters after payment has been made.
“Meter that I ordered since last year, is yet to be delivered and you’re bringing another price,” an X user stated.
“I have paid for meter since February till date no meter no refund,” an Abuja Disco customer, Usman Abdulkadir complained on X while reacting to the announcement of the new meter prices.
