Ekiti 2022: APC Sets Up Primary Election Committee

All Progressives Congress (APC) has set up a committee in preparation for its primary election in Ekiti coming up on January 27, ahead of the governorship scheduled to hold on 18 June 2022.

According to the circular containing list of the primary election committee members, the Governor of Jigawa State, His Excellency, Badaru Abubakar is the chairman, while Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan former speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly is the Secretary.

Other members of the committee include Hajia Kafilat Ogbara, Hon. Lanre Issa Onilu, Alhaji Mohammed Bamanga, Mr Tayo Adewakun and Mr Julius Ogunro.

The party also constituted a primary election appeal committee to handle all complaints that may arise from the stakeholders and participants about the exercise. They include Mallam Tijani Musa Tumsah, chairman, and Hadiza Bala Usman, secretary. Other members of the appeal committee are Mr. Niyi Akinsiju, Dr Ogaga Ifowodo and Hajia Aisha Aliyu.

According to the timetable from the INEC headquarters for the Ekiti election, party primaries were scheduled to hold between January 4 and 29.

The APC primary in the state was earlier scheduled to hold on January 22, but on Sunday, January 9, it was rescheduled to January 27.

The party sold Expression of Interest form for N2.5 million and the Nomination form for N20 million giving a total of N22.5 million. Physically challenged persons and female aspirants are to pay 50 per cent of the stipulated fees.

Earlier, there were speculations that the incumbent Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, who is of APC, has an anointed  candidate to take over from him, but he has denied it.
