Anambra Guber 2025: INEC Publishes Personal Details Of Candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has published personal particulars of each candidate and his running mate for the Anambra governorship election.

In a statement released on Saturday, signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC said the details of the candidates and their running mates are now on display at its State Headquarters and the 21 local government offices across Anambra State.

The statement said 16 political parties uploaded their candidates’ nomination forms for the state governorship election to the dedicated portal of INEC at the scheduled deadline of 6.00pm on Monday 12th May 2025 before it automatically shut down.

The submission of the candidates’ details followed the conclusion of the primaries by the political parties participating in the 8 November 2025 governorship election.

INEC explained that its publication of the candidates’ personal details is in line with provisions of Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022.

“As provided in Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and listed as item 4 on the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the election, the Commission has published the personal particulars of each candidate and his running mate by displaying copies of the Form EC9, along with all the accompanying academic credentials and other documents submitted by them, at our State Headquarters and the 21 Local Government offices across Anambra State,” INEC stated.

The electoral body called on Nigerians to scrutinise the documents containing candidates’ details. It also stated that aspirants with reasonable grounds to believe that the information provided by a candidate is false can challenge the nomination in a Federal High Court.

“Any aspirant who participated in his/her party primaries with reasonable grounds to believe that the information provided by a candidate is false can challenge the nomination in a Federal High Court as provided in Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022,” INEC stated.

The Commission further stated that “the final list of candidates for the election will be published on 9th June 2025 which is at least 150 days before the day of the election in line with the provision of Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 and listed as item 7 on our Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the election.

So far, candidates of major political parties participating in the election include Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), George Moghalu of the Labour Party, and Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The APGA, APC and Labour Party conducted their primaries on 5 April 2025. The Anambra State Governorship election holds on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
