He stated this in a statement he personally signed which was released on Saturday just as the APC primary election was about to take place.

Okonkwo, who is also a political scientist, said: “This decision to withdraw from the race was a difficult but necessary one because of some developments that are inconsistent with my principles and values.

“The project is not worth risking the lives of my supporters among other reasons.”

He, however, pledged to continue to contribute in ways he can towards the realisation of President Bola Tinubu’s policies and programmes for the development and economic growth of Nigeria and for the good of all citizens.

The political juggernaut and business leader expressed his gratitude to all his supporters, campaign team, political associates and stakeholders in APC for the trust and support given to him.

“Your support has meant a lot, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to have connected with so many committed and passionate Anambrarians,” he added.

He prayed for peace, progress and stability in Anambra State.

Also, another aspirant, Sir Paul Chukwuma, who was an aspirant for the APC governorship ticket resigned his membership of the the APC hours to the Primary election.

The APC and other opposition political parties are gearing up to contest the number one seat of the state with the incumbent governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in November.
