Samuel Agu’s Brace Hands Heartland First Victory In Six Matches

,Samuel Agu’s brace earned Heartland a 2-0 win over visiting Kano Pillars on Saturday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium. It is the first victory for the Owerri based side in their six last matches.

Agu fired the Nazi millionaires into the lead in the 39th minute of the match and then grabbed a second in the 77th minute.

Heartland, who are 16th on the log with 38 points in 32 matches, are only fighting to avoid relegation this season.

The Emmanuel Amuneke tutored side, have been struggling to win matches, managing to pull a draw against Sunshine Stars before Saturday’s victory.

For Pillars, who yet to earn a win in five matches, Saturday’s defeat is coming just days after coach  Usman Abd’Allah made a return at the helm after a misunderstanding with club management leading to long suspension.

The veteran coach, who was happy to be back, had vowed to return the Kano based side to winning ways. It is however likely that his dreams will begin to come to pass when Pillars host Lobi Stars in their next match.

Meanwhile, Remo Stars continue their solo run at the top of the ladder with eight points clear of second placed Rivers United.

Both teams will square up on Sunday in top of the table clash at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium Port Harcourt.

The top four teams viz, Remo Stars, Rivers United, Abia Warriors and Shooting Stars are all in action Sunday.  While Shooting stars host visiting Ikorodu City, Abia Warriors will be guests to Enyimba in an oriental derby.

Reigning league champions, Rangers, are currently out of the top four with 45 points in 31 matches. Coach of the side Fidelis Ilechukwu who doubles as assistant coach of the Super Eagles had earlier in the season told Primebusines.africa that it won’t be easy defending the title they won last season.

He nonetheless added that the team will take the race one game at a time. “You can’t just say you will defend your title. There are no easy matches and every team is competing to win so you talk about putting in your best and taking the race one game at a time” he said

In other matches lined up for Sunday, Lobi Stars will tackle Sunshine Stars, Plateau United face Kwara United, Tornadoes slug it out with El Kanemi Warriors while Nasarawa United do battle against Akwa United.
