I Never Said Supreme Court Ruling Rivers States Is ‘Reckless’ – Obi

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Mr Peter Obi, has denied saying the Supreme Court judgment on the Rivers State crisis is “reckless.”

In a post on his verified X handle, Obi said his statement from which the report was drawn, was made in general terms regarding the attitude of political elites in the face of deepening poverty in the country.

He said: “My attention has been drawn to a news report saying that I described the Supreme Court ruling on Rivers State as reckless.

“The statement I made from which the report was drawn is on the general terms of the attitude of the political elites in the face of deepening poverty in the land.

“There’s nowhere I made direct remarks on the Supreme Court ruling as reckless.”

The Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election pointed out that even if he doesn’t agree with a ruling of the apex court, he cannot describe it as reckless.

“I find it very necessary to give this clarification,” the former Anambra State governor added.

Obi had in a statement earlier, criticised the current trend of governance in the country, asserting that the political elites seem to be focused on what he described as “frivolities” while there is high level of multidimensional poverty, soaring infant mortality rates, millions of out-of-school children, escalating insecurity and many other challenges.

He emphasised that leaders were expected to be focused on providing solutions to the myriad of problems rocking the countries, instead of diverting attention to “trivialities.”
