Suspected Fulani herdsmen have again unleashed mayhem in Nkaleha, a community in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, killing many people on Sunday, 2 February 2025.

Prime Business Africa gathered that the attack, which occurred in the early hours on Sunday, led to the death of many people.

They also razed many houses during the attack believed to be in response to alleged killing of their cows.

However, a source, who requested not to be named, said the community members were not responsible for the killing of the cows.

The source further alleged that the cows were killed by members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in the forest.

The LGA chairman, Ifeoma Peace, confirmed the incident, saying that bodies of the victims were being conveyed to mortuary.

Some videos shared on social media showed bodies of the victims killed in various parts of the community. While some were killed in a church, others were slain in their homes.

Voices of some members of the community were heard in one of the videos wailing over the horrific attack.

The community just like many other parts of the South-east region, has come under such attack by suspected herders in the past.

The frequent attacks have been linked to clashes between farmers and herders.

While farmers protest damage to their farmlands, the herders usually strike either in retaliation for killing of their cattle or to scare away the residents and possibly take over their farmlands for grazing.
