AFCON – Bound Mane, Salah’s Goals ‘Cancelled’ In Liverpool’s Four-goal Thriller Versus Chelsea

January 2, 2022
A resolute Chelsea side came back from 2-0 down for a share of the spoils with second placed LIverpool on Sunday evening at Stamford Bridge – a result that strengthens Manchester City’s grip on the Premier League summit.
Sadio Mane and Mo Salah who will now join Senegal and Egypt respectively for the Africa Cup of Nations scored for the Reds who were without manager Jurgen Klopp after his positive Covid test.
Thomas Tuchel left out striker Romelu Lukaku for his controversial interview in Italy where he expressed his dissatisfaction at Chelsea under Tuchel.
However goals in quick succession just before the break, a lovely volley and a deft finish from the duo of Mateo Kovacic and Christian Pulisic made sure Chelsea restored parity.
The two goalkeepers produced some exquisite saves in the second half  as both sides settled for a 2-2 draw in the match that so far is a contender for game of the season.
In the other games in the English Premier League earlier on Sunday, Brighton defeated Everton 3-2 away and it was 2-1 in favour of Brentford in the fixture against Aston Villa.
