After failing to make it to the final of this year’s CAF Women Champions League, Nigeria’s Edo Queens have vowed to disarm FC Masar of Egypt today in the third place match.

The tie billed for 6pm today, promises to be full of fireworks as both sides are eager to settle for Bronze  after missing Gold and Silver that has already reserved for TP Mazembe and hosts AS FAR of Morocco who will file out tomorrow in the final.

Masar have had a good run this year emerging champions of the Egyptian Women’s Premier League and are eager to add another laurel to that, hence the resolve to fight to the finish against Edo Queens today in the CAF Champions league third place.

The team has not been in existence for long but making waves and in a hurry to ride higher whenever the opportunity comes.

Based in in Cairo Egypt, the club formerly known as Tutankhamun FC was founded in 2019 by Al Ahly and Egypt player Taher Mohamed. In 2021, the club was acquired by Right to Dream Egypt, owned by businessman Sir Mohamed Mansour. On 25 September 2024, the club was rebranded and changed their name to FC Masar.

The club qualified for the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League for the first time in their history on 15 October 2024, despite finishing second in the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League UNAF Qualifiers. This was made possible after the qualifiers’ winners, AS FAR of Morocco, also won the Moroccan Women’s Championship and automatically qualified as hosts, following CAF’s announcement that Morocco would host the finals.

They are back to back winners of the Egyptian Women’s Cup having won in 2023 and 2024. Adding the third place finish to their 2024 accolades is one thing the team will be hoping to do if they find Edo Queens soft nut to crack.

Meanwhile Edo Queens Coach Moses Aduku is eager to end the tournament with something tangible to show for it insisting that the encounter against the Egyptian ladies is one that must be won.

Though both teams are debutants in the CAF Women Champions league, believes finishing third in first appearance won’t be a bad idea as that will be medal guaranteed.

” It’s a football game, you win some, you lose some. But we are not down, we are not out yet, we are fighting for the 3rd place,” he told a press conference.

“So by tomorrow (Friday) I am expecting my girls to go all out and see how the can win the bronze medal.

“I know it’s not gonna be an easy one, the Egyptian team is also a good team. The last time we played them it was goalless but I believe goalless will not give us a bronze. So, definitely, we need to go all out to win.”

The final of this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League holds tomorrow with host FAR Rabat of Morocco taking on TP Mazembe of DR Congo in a clash women football fans say will be survival of the fittest.
