Chelsea usurped Liverpool at the top of the English Premier League albeit temporarily on Saturday evening after their 7-0 whitewash of bottom side Norwich City who thus suffered their heaviest league defeat.

English international Mason Mount scored his first Premier League hat-trick and assisted another goal including a stoppage time strike.

Callum Hudson-Odoi doubled the Blues’ lead with further goals by Reece James, Ben Chilwell and an own goal by Max Aarons further piled the pressure on Norwich.

Phil Foden grabbed a brace and assisted one as Manchester City impressed in a 4-1 victory at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Ilkay Gundogan back from an injury spell opened the scoring after being teed up by Bernardo Silva 13 minutes in.

The youngster’s goal had a dint of luck to it as Gabriel Jesus’s shot deflected off him.

Alexis Mac Allister scored for Brighton from the spot after Enoch Mwepu was fouled in the box.

Algerian star Riyad Mahrez scored from Foden’s pass in the final minute of stoppage time to add gloss to the scoreline.

City leapfrog Liverpool who face Manchester United on Sunday into second on 20 points, two behind Chelsea. Brighton stay fourth, five points further back.

The poor City side ended the match a man down after Ben Gibson was shown a second yellow card.

Callum Wilson’s superb overhead kick earned  new moneybags Newcastle United a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Rodrigo scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time to earn Leeds United a 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers and deny the visitors a fourth consecutive victory while Maxwel Cornet scored twice to earn Burnley a point in a thrilling 2-2 draw with Southampton.
