U.S. Election: Harris Picks Minnesota Governor As Running Mate
Kamala Harris and Tim Walz

The United States Vice President, Kamala Harris, has picked Minnesota Governor, Tim Walz, as her running mate in the upcoming presidential election.

Harris had over the weekend in Washington DC reportedly, interviewed several top contenders for the position.

Harris officially secured the Democratic presidential nomination on Monday after winning 99 per cent votes of participating delegates, thereby becoming the first black woman and first Asian American to lead a major-party ticket. She would become the first woman to lead America as president if she defeats the Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, in the November election.

Harris’ nomination by President Joe Biden, who pulled out of the race last month, has, according to analysts, upset the stage for Trump, who was already gaining momentum, especially after the debate where Biden recorded poor performance.

Harris’ running mate, Walz, is a former high school teacher and currently in his second term as Minnesota governor. He had served in the United States Congress for 12 years, representing Minnesota’s 1st congressional district from 2007 to 2019. He is also a former U.S. Army non-commissioned officer where he served for 20 years.

With his stand in the Democratic party, (currently, the chair of Democratic Governors Association), Walz is considered by analysts as an asset to Harris in winning the election
