Obi, Sanwo-Olu Express Shock Over Ifeanyi Ubah’s Death

Mr Peter Obi and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, have expressed shock over the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

In a statement via his verified X handle, Mr Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election said he received the news of Senator Ubah’s death on Saturday morning with rude shock.

Obi recalled that he met with Ubah recently during a burial in Nnewi, Anambra State where they had discussions on the state of the nation and the deceased assured him that despite their party differences, they would work together as a family, in serving their people.

“I received a rude shock this morning, the news of the death of my dear younger brother, and Senator Representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah,” Obi stated.

“During our discussions on the state of the nation, he told me that he now understands my commitment to the progress of humanity and that he aligns with it. He assured me that, despite our party differences, we would work together as a family, in serving our people.”

Obi added that despite their differences in political affiliation, he commended Senator Ubah for his contributions to a better humanity through the Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation, through which he cared for the less privileged in society, by investing in their education, and health and pulling people out of poverty.

Obi prayed for the repose of his soul.

On his part, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the death of Ifeanyi Ubah is shocking and a “tremendous loss” to Nigeria, as well as his home state of Anambra.

In a post via his verified X handle, the Lagos governor described Ubah as an “astute businessman and politician who made significant contributions to nation-building as a representative of his people in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly.”

He extended heartfelt condolences to Ubah’s family, friends, the Anambra State governor, and the entire people of the state for the irreparable loss.

“I also want to commiserate with the President of the Senate, Dr. Godswill Akpabio, all the distinguished Senators, the entire National Assembly, and the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Soludo, over the unfortunate demise of Senator Ubah.

“I pray for the repose of his soul and ask God to grant his family the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” Sanwo-Olu added.

Prime Business Africa had reported that Senator Ubah, who represented Anambra South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, died in London, the United Kingdom, on Saturday.
