Ashleigh Plumptre Regrets Olympics Miss, Prays For Falcons

Super Falcons and Al-Ittihad defender, Ashleigh Plumptre, has expressed regrets  over her inability to join the 2024 Olympics party in Paris, France.

Describing her injury induced sidelining as a “shame”, Plumptre who has been a crucial member of the Super Falcons in recent years, said it  is the crash of a long held dream.

According to the 26-year-old English-born Nigerian defender, her dream has always been to play at the Olympics but that dream has to wait as she battles to return to full fitness.

Plumptre confessed that after undergoing surgery earlier in the year, she has been making efforts to return to full fitness before the Olympics but that didn’t go as planned.

She however expressed delight that the Super Falcons were able to make it to the Olympics ans prayed for success of the team while revealing her resolve to monitor the team’s progress at the Games which runs from 26 July to 10 August, 2024.

“Timings haven’t aligned to be in contention for the Olympic roster  a dream I’ve held since I can remember,” she wrote.

“Since having my surgery, I’ve worked in every area of my life to be in the best position to recover, but one thing I’ve learnt is how to really listen to my body!

“While on a personal note, it’s a shame to miss out, I cannot put into words my excitement and pride in knowing I’ll be watching my Super Falcons girls representing this flag on the Olympic stage.

“Go well, girls! Naija to the world!”

Super Falcons To Open Campaign Against Brazil July 25

Randy Waldrum tutored Super Falcons who are already camping in Spain ahead of the Olympics, are grouped with Spain, Japan and Brazil.

The team will flag off campaign against Brazil on July 25, followed by a clash against world Cup champions Spain on July 28 before locking horns with Japan on July 31 in the last group game.

The Super Falcons last featured at the Olympics at the Beijing Games in 2008.
