International Reactions to Iranian President Raisi’s Death

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other senior officials, died in a helicopter crash in East Azerbaijan province. The crash, confirmed by Iranian state media on Monday, has sent shockwaves of grief through both the nation and the international community. Here are some international reactions:

Iran’s vice president for executive affairs, Mohsen Mansouri, showed his condolences by posting a Koranic verse on his official  X (formerly Twitter) handle. State television broadcast images of Raisi with a background of Koranic recitation.

Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi

Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi reported that the helicopter had made a “hard landing” due to bad weather conditions. He encouraged citizens to rely on official channels for information, discouraging the consumption of news from foreign media.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei reassured the nation, urging them not to worry about the country’s leadership. He emphasized that there would be no disruption in the functioning of the Islamic Republic.

The crash prompted reactions from around the world. Expressions of concern and offers of help came from numerous countries, including Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Russia, China, and Turkey. The European Union activated its rapid response mapping service to aid in the search efforts.

The U.S. also monitored the situation closely. A U.S. State Department spokesperson commented on the incident, and President Joe Biden was briefed on the crash.
