David Akanmu, the Best Graduating Student (BGS) at the University of Lagos (UNILAG)’s 54th Convocation Ceremonies, has been chosen as a 2024 Knight-Hennessy Scholar, marking UNILAG’s global academic prowess.

UNILAG stands tall as an international platform for success, with David Akanmu, its top student, clinching the prestigious 2024 Knight-Hennessy Scholar title. Among 90 new scholars selected globally, Akanmu is the lone representative from an African university.

UNILAG proudly holds the distinction of being the sole African institution among the sixty universities from which the 2024 cohort emerged.

Akanmu’s stellar achievement highlights UNILAG’s commitment to academic excellence. Graduating with a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0 in Civil Engineering, Akanmu has now secured a place in the history books as the third UNILAG graduate to receive the Knight-Hennessy Scholar Award.

His academic journey will continue at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, where he will pursue a Ph.D. in Energy Science and Engineering.

The Knight-Hennessy Scholars program, housed at Stanford University, is a beacon of multidisciplinary and multicultural education.
