Nigeria Ready To Host African Central Bank,  Says President Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has declared Nigeria’s readiness to host the African Central Bank, aligning with the vision outlined in the Abuja Treaty.

Addressing leaders at the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Tinubu emphasized his administration’s commitment to ensuring the bank’s establishment by 2028.

“We are prepared to collaborate with the African Union Commission and member states to facilitate the timely establishment of the African Central Bank,” stated President Tinubu.

Highlighting the continent’s challenges, Tinubu stressed the importance of unity and solidarity among African nations to overcome obstacles such as climate change and unfair global trade practices.

He also addressed internal issues, condemning coup-led autocracies and unconstitutional alterations to governmental structures as impediments to Africa’s development.

Regarding military takeovers in several African nations, Tinubu urged for the preservation of regional cooperation despite disagreements over governance changes. He emphasized the significance of regional unity in fostering peace and stability.

Tinubu underscored the pivotal role of education in Africa’s development, aligning with this year’s summit theme. He emphasized the need to remodel educational systems to promote democratic values, diplomacy, and conflict resolution.

“In Nigeria, we are prioritizing education at all levels, from enhancing school feeding programs to integrating Information and Communication Technology into the curriculum,” said President Tinubu.

Furthermore, President Tinubu extended an invitation to the Africa Counter-Terrorism Summit scheduled for April 2024 in Abuja. The summit aims to address the root causes of violent extremism, including poverty and the spread of hateful ideologies, beyond traditional military and law enforcement approaches.
