Three-time African champions, Nigeria, will on Thursday evening play against hosts Cote d’Ivoire in their second Group A game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles began their campaign on a shaky note with a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday.

The result means that the Eagles must avoid a defeat against the AFCON hosts today and hope that Guinea Bissau are able to get a result against Equatorial Guinea in the earlier game to kick off at 3 pm.

The team has won three easy games at the past tournaments but largely struggled in others.

In total, the Nigerian side have won in eight of their second group matches.

With Christian Chukwu as head coach, the Eagles defeated South Africa 4-0 when Tunisia hosted in 2004.

The then known Red Devils before they were christened Green Eagles and later Super Eagles, defeated Sudan 4-0 in 1963.

The Eagles were too good for Zimbabwe in 2006 with a 2-0 triumph and against Sudan in 2021 when they won 3-1.

Ahead of the game, we present the results of the Super Eagles’ second group matches at previous editions of the Africa Cup of Nations.
