In a development, the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, has made an appearance at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters.

This move comes in response to an invitation extended by the EFCC in connection to an alleged N585 million fraud within her ministry.

Edu’s suspension, announced by President Bola Tinubu earlier this week, stems from accusations regarding the improper handling of funds intended for aiding vulnerable groups in several states, including Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Cross River, and Ogun.

The allegations revolve around the purported diversion of humanitarian funds meant for grants into a private account, sparking public outrage and widespread concern.

This unprecedented suspension marks a significant moment, with Edu becoming the first minister to face such action since the inauguration of the Federal Executive Council in August of the previous year.

The decision to suspend Edu, as reported by Prime Business Africa, follows a wave of public discontent fueled by the alleged mismanagement of N585 million allocated for essential support to marginalized communities.

As the investigation unfolds, all eyes are on the EFCC proceedings, seeking clarity on the accusations against Edu and hoping for accountability in the utilization of crucial humanitarian funds meant for the most vulnerable populations.
