It has been 111 days since the untimely demise of the Nigerian music sensation, Ilerioluwa Aloba, famously known as Mohbad. Today, he would have turned 28, and Nigerians are coming together to celebrate the life and legacy of this talented young artist whose impact seems to have intensified in his absence on his Posthumous Birthday.

Mohbad’s untimely demise took an unexpected turn, sparking controversy and social turmoil throughout Nigeria. A video surfaced online, depicting the disruption of Mohbad’s video shoot by figures associated with Naira Marley, including Samson Balogun (Sam Larry), the Marlian Music boss.

This incident ignited a wave of anger among youths who accused Naira Marley and Sam Larry of being complicit in Mohbad’s death.

The ensuing chaos intensified when a letter from Mohbad to the Nigeria Police Force, highlighting threats to his life, emerged online. The Police’s inability to act without Mohbad’s direct involvement led to further public outcry.

Eventually, Naira Marley, Sam Larry, and two others were arraigned and remanded over the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death, only to be later granted bail by a Lagos State Magistrate’s Court.

Another revelation that fueled controversy was Mohbad’s hasty burial, occurring within 24 hours of his death. Outraged youths demanded an autopsy to determine the cause of death, leading to the exhumation of his body a week later.

Calls for justice intensified as social media influencers and celebrities insisted on a DNA test for Mohbad’s son, Liam, amid revelations of disputes between the late rapper and his wife, Omowunmi.

Family Drama and Legal Battles:

Amidst the drama, Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi, eventually agreed to a DNA test for Liam, advocating for tests both in Nigeria and abroad.

During the Coroner Inquest into Mohbad’s death, Wunmi disclosed disturbing details about his past incidents of bullying, psychological trauma, and an arrest by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). She claimed Mohbad died from injuries sustained in a fight with Prime Boy, and subsequent injection by a nurse treating him for two years.

Prime Boy, initially declared wanted by the police, turned himself in, making startling claims in an interview. He accused Mohbad’s wife of framing him and disputed police statements regarding his invitation for questioning. The unraveling of these events added layers of complexity to the ongoing investigation.

Mohbad’s Legacy:

Despite the unresolved mysteries surrounding his death, Mohbad’s impact reverberates in the music industry and beyond. His demise prompted a closer examination of contractual agreements between artists and record labels, shedding light on the hidden costs that often accompany such deals.

The tragedy also encouraged celebrities battling depression to speak out and seek help. In the digital realm, Mohbad’s influence persisted posthumously.

He dominated social media trends and music streaming platforms, garnering tributes from celebrities globally. Posthumous collaborations with Nigerian singer Chike and Ivorian-British singer Afro B further solidified his legacy.
