Lagos Government Shuts Alaba Int’l Market

The Lagos State Government has sealed off the Alaba International Market over poor waste disposal practices amongst other infractions.

This was announced by the Commissioner of the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Lagos State, Tokunbo Wahab via his Twitter account on Monday.

According to him, “Alaba International Market has been sealed up for poor waste disposal practices, failure to pay their waste bills and gross environmental sanitation offences”.

This is the latest in the series of markets that had been shut down recently by the Lagos State Government amongst other operations like the demolition of illegal structures.

Markets like the Mile 12 International Market, the Owode Onirin Market along Ikorodu Road, the Ladipo Auto Parts Market have faced similar fate for environmental infractions.

They were however later reopened by the Lagos State Government as soon as they were able to meet up with the environmental sanitation requirements.
