2023 Elections: ActionAid Rallies Political Parties For More Inclusion Of Women, Youths

ActionAid Nigeria  has extended  an invitation to major Political parties, especially the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP),  for a one-day  dialogue to discuss possibilities of opening leadership and civic spaces for women and youths in the political parties.

The event is scheduled to take place on Tuesday  at the Sheraton Hotel Abuja   at 10 am.

A copy of the invitation letter signed by the  Country Director of ActionAid, Ene Obi, and sighted by Prime Business Africa on  Monday  indicated that British High Commissioner to Nigeria Catriona Laing would be the Guest of Honour at the event themed ”The Role of Political Parties in Achieving an Inclusive & Democratic Process Towards Women and Youth Inclusion in the 2023 Elections.”

ActionAid  is a global movement to further human rights for all and defeat poverty by prioritizing works for the poor and the excluded.  But ActionAid Nigeria’s current intervention in the  2023 political events, Prime Business Africa gathered, is being supported by the Foreign and Commonwealth Development  Office (FCDO) in the implementation of the ”Campaign for the Inclusion of Women and Young People in Political and Governance processes (We You Pro) in Nigeria.”

”This is coming at critical juncture where the President has signed the electoral amendment bill into an act, thereby bringing the aspiration and dreams of millions of women and youths towards steps in achieving an inclusive democratic process and outcomes in the 2023 elections,”  ActionAid said in the letter to one of the leading political parties.

”Strategically, this dialogue seeks to create a viable channel with other political parties in Nigeria  in order to initiate meaningful conversations on inclusiveness and responsive democratic process. in line with the foregoing, and given the strategic role your institution plays in contributing to a stable political atmosphere in Nigeria, ActionAid Nigeria deems it very important to invite your esteemed office to the proposed one-day inter-party dialogue scheduled as follows:

Date: 26th April 2022

Time: 10.00am to 12. 00pm

Venue: Ladi Kwali Hall, Sheraton Hotel, Abuja.”

Prof. Anthonia Simbine will deliver the keynote while Channels Television’s Seun Akinbaloye will be the Anchor, with the leadership of the political parties as panelists.
