Nigeria’s medal hopeful and world record 100m Hurdles holder, Tobi Amusan, will not be part of the 100m Hurdles final on Saturday after she finished the semifinal heat at 12.55s.

Amusan who delivered a good finish to qualify for the semifinal finished third in her heat qualifying with a small q’ dependent on the outcome of other runners in heats 2 and 3.

Unfortunately, other runners who could not make the top three posted better timing in heat 2 and 3, crashing Amusan’s chance of still making the cut via repechage or second chance.

America’s Grace Stark, who won heat 1, posted a time of 12.39s, while second placed Bahamian Devynne Charlton finished in a time of 12.50s

Others runners who have booked their automatic final slot are Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (12.35), Masai Russell (12.42), Ackera Nugent,

Jamaican (12.44), Alaysha Johnson 12.34 and Nadine Visse 12.43.

Despite her non qualification, optimistic Nigerians are still praying and hoping that a miracle happens and she makes the final list somehow.

Nigerians Sing Lamentation Songs Over Amusan Final Miss

Apparently not ready to believe it, an X user Sir Murphy™ @SirMurphy164479 said What’s the problem? She will make it to the final by the Grace of God. The only medal hopefully we get now. God no go shame us.”

sekoni mike @MikeSekoni however took it in good fate saying, “She didn’t qualify for the final. Very unfortunate.”

Terfa Tilley-Gyado @TerfaTG said in apparent reaction to entire performance by Nigerian team.”In an ideal world, every member of the Nigerian Olympic Committee would turn in their resignation letters tomorrow. This has been shambolic from start to finish.”

For Captain MD🌍@LovedCarefully, the pressure on Tobi Amusan is just too much. Hear him, PRESSURE TI POJU on top the little girl. She can’t carry the weight of 200m people on her shoulders. Sorry, Nigerians and Tinubu should find their joy and “Renewed Hope” elsewhere. 😀”

KIA🇳🇴@kfra_88 however proffers a solution saying, “Nigeria should do this1. Boycott the next 4 Olympics2. Train 4 year-old kids Athletics 3. In 16 years they’ll be 20-years-old, good to go to the Olympics and win Nigeria gold medals.🥇”
