How Loss Of Over $5 Trillion In U.S. Stock Exchange Affects Nigeria

Nigerian stock market capitalisation closed at N28.64 trillion on Friday, 20 January 2023, depreciating by -0.06 per cent from N28.66 trillion.

Similarly, the All-Share Index fell to 52,594.68 after losing 31.74 basis points from the previous day’s 52,626.42 ASI.

Investors exchanged N1.68 billion on Friday for 443.75 million shares in 3,100 deals. A day before, over N1.81 billion were traded in 3,183 deals for 129.03 million shares.


Top five gainers 

Abbey Mortgage share appreciated by N0.15kobo to rise from N1.53kobo to N1.53kobo per share 

Prestige grew by 9.52 per cent, up from N0.42kobo to N0.46kobo per share 

International Energy Insurance ended trading with N0.49kobo from N0.45kobo per share, rising by 9.38 per cent. 

Cornerstone gained 7.14 per cent to end trading at N0.60kobo, having opened with N0.56kobo per share. 

FTN Cocoa stock was up by 3.57 per cent, closing with N0.29kobo from N0.28kobo per share


Top five losers 

Linkage Assurance depreciated by 9.62 per cent, dwindling from N0.52kobo to N0.47kobo per share. 

Consolidated Hallmark Insurance also fell by 7.35 per cent to end trading at N0.63kobo, after opening with N0.68kobo per share. 

Mutual Benefit followed the same path, losing 3.23 per cent after trading hours, to sell at N0.63kobo from N0.68kobo per share.   

Dangote Sugar reported a decline of N0.45kobo from the previous day’s share price of N17.45kobo to end trading at N17 per share.  

Jaiz Bank share depreciated to N0.88kobo from N0.90kobo, after losing 2.22 per cent during trading hours.


Top five trading equities in stock exchange 

Veritas Kapital reported 347.05 million shares valued at N69.41 million were traded on its floor   

Access Corp recorded 11.34 million shares valued at N102.40 million  

Zenith Bank saw investors trade 6.97 million of its shares valued at N170.89 million 

Fidelity Bank recorded 6.62 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N33.12 million  

Chams reported 5.98 million shares valued at N1.57 million exchanged investors’ hands
