The Nigerian Presidency has provided the list of companies that will be partnering with the Federal Government in its attempt to reduce transportation burden on Nigerians during the Yuletide by 50 per cent.

President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga made this known on Thursday via a post on his X handle where he also attached the route the vehicles will be plying.

Prime Business Africa reports that following President Tinubu’s approval of the rebate, the Federal Government and transport unions are negotiating the implementation of a 50 per cent discount for inter-state travel.

This is as he also approved free rides for commuters on all train services for the next two weeks. The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, who made the announcement, told State House Correspondents that the intervention will commence on Thursday.

Alake was accompanied to the press briefing by Onanuga and  the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris; Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali

According to him, “It is in this wise that the President is announcing through us that beginning from tomorrow, December 21, Nigerians willing to travel can board public transport via mini buses, luxury buses at 50 per cent discount of current cost and all our train services on the route the trains currently serve at zero cost on their travels this holiday season”.

In an attempt to dispel what some analysts have described as opacity in the arrangement, Onanuga named five popular transportation companies that will be partnering with the Federal Government to execute the scheme.

He listed them to include GIG (God is Good) Motors, Chisco Transport, Young Shall Grow, God Bless Ezenwata, and Area Motor.

Taking to his social media handle, Onanuga tweeted: “Participating companies in the FG’s plan to reduce the transport burden of travelling 5 million Nigerians:

“1. GIG ( God is Good), 2. Chisco Transport, 3. Young Shall Grow, 4. God Bless Ezenwata, 5. Area Motor.”
