‘Why I Called My Song ‘Men Are Crazy’ - Simi

Nigerian superstar Simi has spoken up about the inspiration behind the controversial title of her hit collaboration with Tiwa Savage, ‘Men Are Crazy’.

In an interview on ‘Way Up With Angela Yee’, Simi explained the reasoning behind the provocative title that stirred conversations across social media platforms. She revealed that she initially refrained from explaining the title amidst the backlash it received from some male audiences online. Instead, she chose to let the song itself do the talking upon its release.

“I honestly wasn’t going to go on an explaining spree at the time. I was like when the song comes out they will see what I’m trying to say,” Simi said.

Acknowledging the unexpected attention the song gathered, Simi hinted at how Tiwa Savage’s contribution softened the message of the song. Tiwa’s inclusion of lyrics like “Men are crazy but I still want one in my bed” added depth to the track, which was initially intended to be straightforward.

This collaboration was a huge milestone in Nigerian music, as it brought together two powerhouse female artists in Afrobeats for the first time. The release of ‘Men Are Crazy’ follows Simi’s earlier single ‘All I Want’, which dropped in February 2024, both serving as teasers for her upcoming album slated for release later this year.
