Tottenham Hotspur head coach, Ange Postecoglou, was in seventh heaven late Wednesday night as the north London side broke the jinx of not having won a major trophy since their Carabao Cup win in 2008.

Spurs defeated Premier League side, Manchester United 1-0, in the final of the Europa League, which confirms their qualification to the 2025/2026 UEFA Champions League.

Postecoglou has not enjoyed a controversy-free campaign and had to deal with a barrage of criticism as Spurs lurk in the relegation places of the Premier League.

The team, owned by Daniel Levy who is very hard crack to crack in the transfer market turned things around and booked their place in Europe’s topflight competition.

“It’s hard to put into words the emotions. I’m super proud of the players,” Arteta stated

“To quote my favourite Australian prime minister, Paul Keating, after an unlikely victory he said, ‘This is one for the true believers.’ and this is certainly one of the true believers.

“That means an unbelievable group of players who never wavered, never lost faith in me and what we were doing. Unbelievable football staff, led by brilliant coaches. People who work at the club from the board down, Lilywhite House, the training ground. The supporters,” the club owner enthused.

Spurs are in the 17th place in the English Premier League.

An excited Postecouglu added: “Big games come down to moments. You’ve got to limit the moments for the opposition. You’ve got to change your approach.

“The players embraced that because that was always going to be our approach in Europe and it’s why we did well in the Carabao Cup. We beat some decent teams in the Carabao Cup, including City, United and we beat Liverpool in the first leg playing a similar way.

“But also it helps that I’ve got Van de Ven and Romero and Vicario, Udogie and Porro and all these guys available. Again that was part of the mindset of making sure they were available for these big games. I thought the lads handled it, the whole Europa knockout stages brilliantly. They knew what we had to do and we were really efficient with what we did. They got their just rewards.”
