Izuchukwu OkosiTottenham Hotspur on Tuesday announced the appointment of former Celtic coach Ange Postecoglou as their new manager on a four-year contract, the English Premier League club revealed in a club statement.
Postecoglou becomes the first Australian to manage a team in the Premier League and will join Spurs on July 1.
“Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play,” Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said in a statement on Tuesday.
“He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy – everything that is important to our club. We are excited to have Ange join us as we prepare for the season ahead.”
The 57-year-old ex-Australia international, who guided the Scottish Premiership club Celtic to a domestic treble this season, will replace Antonio Conte as Spurs’ permanent boss.
The club were linked with Feyenoord’s Arne Slot, Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso and former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann before landing on Postecoglou.
Spurs finished in 8th place in the English Premier League and thus missed out on European football for the 2023/2024 season.
Spurs have not won a title in English football since 2008 when they won the Carabao Cup.
Conte took charge of Spurs in 2021 but became the seventh manager to fail to end their 15-year trophy drought. Spurs last lifted silverware in 2008 when they won the League Cup.
Following Conte’s acrimonious exit in March, Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason took interim charge at the north London side.
They finished eighth in the league after a dismal campaign and missed European football for the first time since the 2009-10 season.
As well as managerial instability, Tottenham has also lost managing director of football Fabio Paratici after he lost his appeal against a 30-month ban for financial crimes related to Juventus player dealings.
Izuchukwu Okosi is a Nigerian sports and entertainment journalist with two decades of experience in the media industry having begun his media journey in 2002 as an intern at Mundial Sports International (MSI) and Africa Independent Television (AIT), owners of Daar Communications Plc.
In October 2004, Okosi joined Complete Communications Limited, publishers of Complete Sports newspaper and Complete Football magazine as a reporter and later script writer for the Complete Sports studio.
He worked there for 13 years until October 2017.
Okosi also worked various times as Correspondent, Content creator and Editor at Sports Market International Magazine, Opera News, All Nigeria Soccer Media and Iconic Media Watch.
He also undertook freelance writing gigs for some local and international organizations.
Okosi is a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Association of Movie Producers (AMP), Association of Voiceover Artistes of Nigeria (AVOA), Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
He has been part of cast in some Nollywood movies and radio dramas including Blood Money 2, Scores To Settle, Dead End 2, Another Campus Tale and Battle Line.
Aside mainstream media and the entertainment industry, he has interests in scouting/unearthing of talents in the sports and creative sectors, exports business and property development.
