Amanze ChinonyeNigeria’s President Bola Tinubu on Saturday held a bilateral meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, where he said his administration is committed to removing all bottlenecks hindering the development of the agricultural sector in the country.
The Nigerian leader emphasised that his administration is determined to unlock the nation’s full potential in food production, livestock development, and agricultural exports.

According to a statement by the president’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu stressed that agriculture remains central to his government’s economic transformation agenda. He said Nigeria is actively seeking strategic international partnerships, particularly with Brazil, which has demonstrated exceptional results in agricultural research and development.
“We are removing all bureaucratic and technical obstacles. Agreements between our countries will be streamlined and fast-tracked across key sectors such as trade, aviation, energy transition, food and agricultural development, mining, and natural resource exploration,” Tinubu said.

He hailed Brazil’s advancements in food production and livestock management, adding that Nigeria is eager to collaborate and benefit from Brazil’s expertise. The president said his administration is focused on boosting investment in poultry, cattle rearing, fisheries, and the blue economy, identifying these as areas that hold long-term potential for partnership.
Tinubu added that state governments have a crucial role to play in complementing federal government’s efforts to transform agriculture into a major source of employment, food security, and revenue generation.
In response, President Lula da Silva pledged Brazil’s full cooperation with Nigeria. He assured that all existing agreements and Memoranda of Understanding would be updated and signed during President Tinubu’s next visit. He agreed that lingering bureaucratic barriers must be eliminated, adding that Brazil’s research and development institutions were ready to support Nigeria’s efforts in livestock production and agricultural expansion.
Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture, Senator Abubakar Kyari, reiterated that food security remains a top priority for the Tinubu administration. He said the objective will be achieved through strong local and international partnerships. Kyari also highlighted Nigeria’s competitive edge in fertilizer production, which he said could be enhanced through collaboration with Brazil.
Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, outlined three key areas for strategic partnership with Brazil: animal health and disease management, sanitary services, and research into genetic materials and new breeds.
The meeting was attended by several Nigerian state governors, including Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, Prince Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.
Governor Dapo Abiodun said the states would fully support the federal government’s efforts to revamp the agricultural sector. He welcomed the inclusion of a business forum during President Tinubu’s visit, saying it would inject fresh ideas and resources to fast-track results.
Also present at the meeting were Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Mohammed Mohammed.
The high-level engagement reflects Nigeria’s growing commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic ties with Brazil, particularly in agriculture, energy, and trade.
