According to recent reports, Lance Reddick’s cause of death was initially believed to be ischemic heart disease and atherosclerotic coronary artery disease. The news, which was first released by TMZ, claimed that the actor had passed away due to these conditions earlier this week.
However, Lance’s attorney, James Hornstein, has since come forward to dispute this claim. In a statement issued to PEOPLE, Hornstein stated that no autopsy had been performed and that “no medical exam of Lance during his lifetime ever indicated such conditions.”

Hornstein went on to describe Lance as “the most physically fit person” he had ever known, with a strict exercise regime and healthy diet. He argued that the information on Lance’s death certificate was “wholly inconsistent” with his lifestyle, and that the family did not believe it to be accurate.
Lance’s wife, Stephanie Reddick, also disputed the information contained in the death certificate, stating that it was “not corroborated and is inconsistent with the facts known to the family.” As such, it remains unclear what the true cause of Lance’s death was, and further investigation may be required to determine the cause of death accurately.
Recall that last month, Reddick’s body was discovered at his Studio City home in Los Angeles, California on Friday morning. His body was found around 9:30 a.m.
TMZ reported that Reddick was currently on a press tour for the fourth film in the ‘John Wick’ movie franchise. He was set to sit down with Kelly Clarkson on her daytime talk show next week.
