October 31, 2025

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has reported a profit after tax (PAT) of ₦537.53 billion for the third quarter ended September 30, 2025, representing a 2.3 per cent increase from the ₦525.31 billion recorded in the same period last year.

Gross earnings for the period rose by 3 per cent to ₦2.469 trillion, up from ₦2.398 trillion a year earlier. Net interest income also increased by 6.2 per cent to ₦1.172 trillion, compared to ₦1.103 trillion in the third quarter of 2024.

However, the bank’s PBT dipped slightly by 4.1 per cent to ₦578.59 billion from ₦603.48 billion recorded last year.

UBA maintained a robust balance sheet, with total assets expanding by 7.2 per cent to ₦32.49 trillion as of September 2025, from ₦30.32 trillion in December 2024. Customer deposits also grew by 7.7 per cent to ₦26.54 trillion, compared to ₦24.65 trillion recorded at the end of last year.

Shareholders’ funds rose sharply by 25.8 per cent to ₦4.3 trillion, underscoring the bank’s strong internal capital generation capacity and investor confidence.

Commenting on the result, UBA’s Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Oliver Alawuba, said the performance reflected the bank’s resilience and diversified business model across multiple markets.

“We delivered solid performance supported by prudent balance sheet management, innovation, and a well-diversified earnings base across all our markets,” Alawuba stated.

He added that the completion of the second phase of the bank’s rights issue marked significant progress in its recapitalisation drive.

“This has strengthened our capital base and will support continued, prudent expansion of our operations across our markets,” he said.

UBA’s Executive Director, Finance and Risk, Ugo Nwaghodoh, attributed the strong performance to focused deposit mobilisation, increased investment in earning assets, and sustained investor confidence.

“Shareholders’ funds expanded by 26 per cent to ₦4.3 trillion, while capital adequacy and liquidity ratios remain well above regulatory thresholds, providing significant buffers for continued growth,” Nwaghodoh noted.

He said the bank remains focused on consolidating gains for the rest of the 2025 financial year through sustained profitability, digital innovation, and long-term value creation for shareholders.

With operations in 20 African countries as well as the United Kingdom, United States, France, and the United Arab Emirates, UBA serves over 45 million customers globally and remains one of the continent’s largest financial employers, with about 25,000 staff.
