Troops of Sector 2 under Operation HADIN KAI have thwarted an attempted highway operation by suspected ISWAP terrorists in Borno State, rescuing 53 civilians and recovering eight vehicles in what underscores the military’s sustained efforts to secure key routes in Nigeria’s North-East, Prime Business Africa reports.
The operation, carried out by troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion, followed the dismantling of a terrorist roadblock mounted along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area on Wednesday.

According to the military, troops deployed at Dutse Kura detected the insurgents blocking the highway through surveillance cameras, prompting the immediate deployment of a Quick Reaction Force (QRF).
The troops pursued the fleeing terrorists toward the Mangari–Dora axis, where they engaged them in a firefight, forcing the insurgents to retreat.
The successful operation led to the rescue of 53 civilians who had been trapped during the roadblock attack, while eight vehicles seized by the terrorists were also recovered.
Beyond rescuing the victims, the operation restored movement along the strategic Buratai–Kamuya route, highlighting ongoing efforts by security forces to deny insurgents the ability to disrupt civilian travel and economic activities in the region.
The troops subsequently cleared the terrorists’ withdrawal route and dominated the surrounding area to prevent any regrouping. Although no further contact was made with the fleeing insurgents, the military said the operation reinforced its control of the area.

All rescued civilians, recovered vehicles and other property were safely evacuated to Buratai, where the victims are undergoing documentation and medical evaluation.
Commending the troops for their professionalism and swift response, the Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI urged residents across the Joint Operations Area to remain vigilant and continue providing timely intelligence on suspicious movements and activities.
The command added that the security situation in the area remains calm, with troops maintaining an aggressive operational posture to sustain pressure on terrorist groups and prevent further attacks on communities and major transportation routes.
