How Loss Of Over $5 Trillion In U.S. Stock Exchange Affects Nigeria

Nigerian stock market dipped by -0.08 percent on Thursday, dragging the market capitalisation down to N23.97 trillion, from Wednesday’s N23.99 trillion.

The All-Share Index closed with 44,011.22 ASI, down from 44,046.94 ASI, after losing 35.72 basis points during trading.

Investors traded N847.88 million to exchange 97.69 million shares in 2,980 deals on Thursday. 

It contrasted with the 159.43 million shares exchanged on Wednesday in 3,039 deals, valued at N2.86 billion. 

Top five gainers

Unilever share appreciated by N1 to rise from N10 to N11 per share. 

Stanbic IBTC grew by N2.50kobo, up from N27.50kobo to N30 per share. 

UPL ended trading with N1.83kobo from N1.68kobo per share, rising by N0.15kobo. 

Sovereign Insurance gained 8.33 percent to end trading at N0.26kobo, having opened with N0.24kobo. 

Royal Exchange’s stock was up by 6.85 percent closing with N0.78kobo from N0.73kobo per share. 

Top five losers

Guinness depreciated by N6.70kobo, dwindling from N67.20kobo to N60.50kobo per share. 

SCOA also fell by N0.14kobo to end trading at N1.29kobo, after opening with N1.43kobo per share. 

ABC Transport followed the same path, losing 8 percent after trading hours, to sell at N0.23kobo from N0.25kobo per share. 

United Capital reported a decline of N0.70kobo from previous day’s share price of N12 to end trading at N11.30kobo per share. 

Oando share depreciated to N3.60kobo from N3.82kobo, after losing N0.22kobo during trading hours. 

Top five trading equities in stock exchange 

Transcorp reported 10.65 million shares valued at N11.58 million were traded on its floor. 

Access Corp recorded 8.09 million shares valued at N68.74 million.

Sterling Bank saw investors trade 7.41 million of its shares valued at N10.43 million. 

GTCO recorded 6.99 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N134 million. 

Nahco reported 6.99 million shares valued at N37.71 million exchanged investors’ hands.
