1. 2023 Polls: Obi Can’t Challenge My Victory -Tinubu

Nigeria’s President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has boasted that he validly won the 2023 presidential election, claiming that the Labour candidate, Mr Peter Obi has no right to question his victory.

Tinubu made the assertion in a preliminary objection he filed alongside the vice president-elect where they challenged the competence of a petition of the Labour Party its candidate, Peter Obi, filed to nullify his election.

2. Obi’s Traducers Plotted  UK Airport Detention – Labour Party

Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign Council has accused political opponents of plotting to implicate the party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, by impersonating him.

Meanwhile, the London immigration revealed that the former Anambra governor was being impersonated.

Head, Obi-Datti Media, Diran Onifade, in a statement on Wednesday disclosed that Obi was detained and questioned for an alleged duplication offence, which suggests that someone has been impersonating him in London. Read more

3. Melaye To Wike: Don’t Talk When You’re Drunk

Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Dino Melaye, has fired back at the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, telling him to avoid talking when he is drunk.

Melaye, who is contesting for the PDP governorship ticket ahead of the Kogi State election later these years, was apparently responding to Wike’s recent verbal tirades, directed at him.

Governor Wike had in a media chat on Tuesday, said if Melaye emerges as PDP governorship candidate in the Kogi election, he will not support the party because according to him, the former lawmaker is not qualified to be a governor.

Melaye in his response said Wike talks under influence of alcohol, adding that the governor has been angry and frustrated since he lost the presidential bid. He further alleged that the governor also lobbied to become Atiku’s running mate and was calling him continuously to facilitate that but turned around to work against Atiku when he failed to get what he wanted.

4. US Court Order Of $460,000 Forfeiture Against Me Not Enforceable – Tinubu

The President-elect, Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, told the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) it lacked the necessary jurisdiction to enforce a purported decision of a United States District Court that ordered the forfeiture of the sum of $460,000 in some US bank accounts linked to him in 1993.
Tinubu, who stated this in his response to the petition filed by the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, against his victory at the February 25 presidential election, further hinged his argument on the fact that the said US court order was never registered in any Nigerian court.

6. FG Approves N41.873bn for Third Mainland Bridge Repairs,    Others

The Nigerian government has approved contracts worth N41.872 billion for the immediate repairs of the third mainland bridge in Lagos, the Enugu-Anambra road as well as the procurement of 337 operational vehicles for the Nigeria Customs Service.

8. South-West, South-South States Top N5.33tn Domestic Debt Chart

Out of a total of N5.33 trillion domestic debt owed by 36  states and the Federal Capital Territory in  Nigeria, Southwest and South states are topping the chart.

While the six states in the Southwest with a total sum of N1.58 trillion have the highest debt burden, the South-South region with a sum of N1. 203 trillion takes second place in terms of geopolitical zone.

This was revealed in the latest data on domestic debt released by the Debt Management Office (DMO) as of December 31, 2022.

10. Insecurity: FG to Install N495bn Baggage Scanners in Six Railway Stations

The Nigerian government has approved the sum of N495 million contract for the procurement and installation of scanners in six train stations between the Abuja and Kano railway corridor.

The approval which was given during the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday is part of efforts to combat security threats on Nigeria’s railway services.
