President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Sunday (tomorrow), together with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), meet with all newly elected Senators and House of Representatives members of the party in the State House Banquet Hall at 7 pm.

This is the first audience President Tinubu will be having with the entire APC NWC and lawmakers since his inauguration on Monday, May 29, 2023.

According to the programme of the event sighted by PBA, Tinubu will arrive at the State House Banquet Hall by 7 pm from his residence. There will be remarks by APC national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu; the Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan and then the president.

Sources said the agenda of the meeting is to deliberate on principal offices in the 10th National Assembly that will be inaugurated on 13th June.

APC with the majority seats in both Senate and House of Representatives, has zoned offices of principal officers to different geopolitical zones. The party chose Senator Godswill Akpabio from South-South (Awka Ibom), for Senate President; Senator Barau Jubrin from Northwest as Deputy Senate President; while Hon. Abass Tajudeen also from North West was picked as Speaker, and Hon Ben Kalu from Southeast as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The choice of the party leadership on who to elect as principal officers, which also, received the endorsement of President Tinubu, did not go down well with some members who are either aspirants of the positions or have other candidates they are supporting other than the ones chosen.

Some APC governors and party stakeholders also kicked against the zoning template.

Prime Business Africa gathered that the meeting is to ensure that the lawmakers-elect stick to plans on who to elect as principal officers.
