Tinubu Sympathises with Anthony Joshua Over Ogun Road Crash

President Tinubu has expressed sympathy to British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua following the fatal road accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State that claimed two lives and left the boxer injured.

In a message issued on Monday, President Tinubu described the incident as a tragic loss that has cast a shadow over the season, while extending his sympathies to Joshua and the families of the victims.

“I extend my deep sympathies to you following the tragic accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, which claimed two precious lives and caused you injuries,” the President said.

He noted that the emotional weight of the incident would be heavy for Joshua and his family, urging solidarity and mutual support in difficult moments. Tinubu also praised the boxer’s discipline, courage and commitment to the country, describing him as a source of national pride.

“As a sportsman, you have always shown courage, discipline, and unwavering love for our country. These are qualities that have made you a source of national pride,” the statement read.

The President prayed for Joshua’s quick recovery and asked for divine comfort for the families of those who lost their lives in the accident.

“I pray for strength, wisdom, and grace for you during this painful period. May God grant you a speedy recovery and repose to the souls of the departed,” Tinubu added.

Anthony Joshua was involved in a road crash on Monday near the Sagamu Interchange along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. Two persons were confirmed dead, while the former heavyweight champion sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing.
