Third Force Adopts Labour Party For 2023 Election

May 22, 2022

After months of continuous engagements with allied civil society groups, political parties and labour unions, spearheaded by National Consultative Front (NCFront), Labour Party has finally been adopted as the mega party of the Third Force Movement for the 2023 general election in Nigeria.

The movement is a coalition of allied parties like People’s Redemption Party (PRP) led by Prof Attahiru Jega, NCFront/Labour Party by Prof. Pat Utomi, National Rescue Movement (NRM) by Senator Saidu Dansadau, among other groups, with support of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).

The groups have been mobilizing to set up a united political platform refered to as Third Force to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023 election and entrench a people-centred leadership.

According to a statement signed by NCFront spokesperson, Ms Bilikis Bello, the adoption of Labour Party (LP) as the mega party of the Third Force Movement was facilitated by the new rapprochement between the leadership of the labour movements and the hierarchy of LP, spearheaded by NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, TUC President, Comrade Quadri Olaleye and Femi Falana Who led The Political Alternative Movement (TPAM) from civil society end.

NCFront said, “With the adoption of Labour Party as our 3rd Force Mega Party penultimate week, the NCFront has since commenced the fusion of its structures of over 20 million members and supporters nationwide into the Labour Party.”

NCFront consequently, directed its members both in Nigeria and diaspora to “register immediately as members of the Labour Party at all designated registration centres, both online and physically at the Ward Levels, to be able to take part in the ongoing electoral programmes of the Party for the 2023 elections,” the group added.

The statement also disclosed that Prof. Jega, Utomi, Dansadau, and others have been mandated by the movement to lead a mega electoral coalition of the Third Force for adoption of a single presidential ticket for the allied parties in the 2023 election.

The statement further indicated that the movement will set up an inclusive Consensus Technical Committee next month to “screen presidential candidates and other candidates of ‘3rd Force’ allied parties towards the adoption of a single line of candidates across all 2023 elections.”

The group further stated that the Third Force Movement’s Mega Electoral Pact for the 2023 elections is proposed around agreement on Labour Charter of Demand, EndSar Youths Demands and Referendum for Nigeria.
