The targeting of al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza has been labelled a “hideous war massacre” by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. President Abbas was in Jordan for a four-way meeting when the attack took place on Tuesday night.

However, he decided to cut short his visit and return to Palestine in response to the tragedy. Subsequently, Jordan announced the cancellation of the summit with the U.S. and Egyptian presidents.

Abbas, moved by the devastation, expressed his determination to prevent what he referred to as a “new Nakba” or catastrophe in the 21st century.

He pledged that the Palestinian people would not accept displacement and would remain resolute in their homeland, regardless of the sacrifices they must endure.

“We will do everything necessary to stop the bloodbath in Gaza and the West Bank,” declared President Abbas. He stressed the urgency of halting the war and called upon the United Nations Security Council to fulfil its responsibilities by passing a resolution condemning the heinous act and demanding an immediate cessation of aggression.

The international community has rallied behind President Abbas, with many nations expressing their solidarity with the Palestinian people. Protests and demonstrations in various parts of the world have called for an end to the violence and a return to peaceful negotiations.
