The Season 7 of the Big Brother Naija reality show began with a double launch weekend on Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Prime Business Africa’s IZUCHUKWU OKOSI presents the seven observations from the launch.

1. Poor Set Design

There are two abodes in the Big Brother Naija house and the housemates played a game of chance to select where they will stay while the game lasts.

The housemates, 24 in total, were separated into into the two houses, 12 contestants each in one house.

Some fans of the show have pointed to the set design of the first Biggie’s house as being substandard as the colour of the furniture and walls were not bright and a tad childish.

Perhaps the idea was to reduce incidents of fights and confrontations. Besides the voting system meant that they picked where they would be.

2. The Huge Prize Money, Gifts

The prize money for the winner of the Season 7 show is N50million with gifts worth N50 million bringing the value to the N100m threshold.

With the prize apparently increasing every year, most Nigerians are asking when there will be a cap to the monetary reward.

The argument is that the show is not educative or moral enough to command such high stakes when such prize monies could have been channelled to reality shows on Startups, Fintechs, Multimedia, Sports, Entertainment and Arts, Sports and even Inter-schools debate and Quiz competitions.

3. The Two Separate Houses

As stated earlier, Biggie brought another twist to the 2022 BBN with 12 housemates occupying two separate houses.

It is not known if there will be cross pollination of the contestants as the 71-day show continues but Big Brother is full of suspense as host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu said.

4. The Live Audience

Following the absence of the live audience in the 2020 and 2021 editions due to Covid-19 restrictions, the audience are back on Sunday evenings for the launch and finale plus the eviction shows.

5. The Ninjas Are Back

One aspect of the show that endeared fans and watchers of the show was the presence of the Ninjas in the 2017 and 2018 editions.

However we haven’t seen the Ninjas for the subsequent editions.

However the Ninjas who are in the game to help prosecute the tasks handed to the housemates by Biggie will be back on our screens.

We have already spotted one of them at the launch weekend shows.

6. Dash of Royalty

Brenda Okagbue was the first housemate introduced on Sunday which was day 2 of the weekend double launch.

Okagbue is from the royal family of His Royal Highness Obi Okechukwu Ofala Okagbue who was the former Obi of Onitsha before the incumbent, Obi Alfred Achebe.

Obi Okagbue took over the reins as Obi of Onitsha from Obi James Chukwudebelu Okosi (the grand father of this writer).

Okagbue’s children have embraced the entertainment industry and are doing amazingly well.

Chris Okagbue is an excellent Nollywood actor. Sandra Okagbue is a face model and Flavour Nabania’s baby mama.

Now, Bella, has hit the limelight and in her introduction clip, proudly told the world that she is an Onitsha (Ado) daughter.

7. Two Dstv Channels For Big Brother Naija Broadcast

Multichoice have two dedicated channels on Dstv for the show this year with channels 198 and 199 available.

The channel 198 as expected is available for the ‘live’ broadcast while the channel 199 is referred to as the BB Naija S7 Xtra.

However both channels were noticeably not open when the launch weekend shows were live on television rather viewers saw them on Africa Magic Urban.
