Late Tuesday night’s game was played at the Audi Field in Washington DC with a capacity crowd in attendance.

Nigeria’s Blessing Demehin who was the captain of the Super Falconets that got eliminated in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica scored an own goal in the 25th minute to hand the Yankees the lead despite Nigeria’s bold performance thus far.

However barely five minutes into the second half substitute Uchenna Kanu equalised for Nigeria when she curled the ball beautifully into the top right corner.

Rasheedat Ajibade created a decent chance with a cross inside the Americans’ penalty box but the ball was cleared swiftly.

American substitute Meghan Rapinoe who was greeted by a raucous applause when she made her way into the pitch assisted Rose Lavelle for their second goal in the 66th minute.

Lavelle saw her header bobble past Chiamaka Nnadozie in goal for Nigeria with the goalkeeper badly exposed by her wandering defenders.

Despite the best efforts of both sides subsequently, there was no further goals.
