How Loss Of Over $5 Trillion In U.S. Stock Exchange Affects Nigeria

Nigerian equity market depreciated by -0.13% on Friday, causing a loss of N35.19 billion in the market capitalisation, which fell to N26.68 trillion, from N26.72 trillion. 

This followed the 65.24 basis points lost by the All-Share Index today, resulting to it declining from 49,540.48 ASI, to 49,475.24 ASI.

On the exchange floor, over 197.45 million shares, worth N2.94 billion, were traded in 3,462 deals on Friday, surpassing the 167.60 million shares exchanged in 3,458 deals on Thursday, worth N1.26 billion. 

Top five gainers

  • NEM share appreciated by N0.46kobo to rise from N5.13kobo to N5.59kobo per.
  • Academy stock grew N0.14kobo, up from N2.06 to N2.20kobo per share.
  • Japaul Gold ended trading with N0.28kobo from N0.27kobo per share, rising by 3.70 percent.
  • Cadbury gained N0.40kobo to end trading at N13.75kobo, having opened with N13.35kobo.
  • Nahco stock was up by 0.88 percent, closing with N5.75kobo from N5.70kobo per share. 

Top five losers 

  • NGX Group depreciated by N198.75kobo, dwindling from N1988.25kobo to N1789.50kobo per share.
  • Regal Insurance also fell by 7.41 percent to end trading at N0.25kobo, after opening with N0.27kobo per share.
  • Unity Bank followed the same path, losing 6.98 percent after trading hours, to sell at N0.40kobo from N0.43kobo per share.
  • Access Corp reported a decline of N0.45kobo from previous day’s share price of N8.75kobo to end trading at N8.30kobo per share.
  • Cornerstone share depreciated to N0.60kobo from N0.63kobo, after losing 4.76 percent during trading hours. 

Top five trading equities in stock exchange 

  • Zenith Bank reported 11.80 million shares valued at N232.61 million were traded on its floor.
  • Access Corp recorded 11.35 million shares valued at N98.28 million.
  • First Bank saw investors trade 10.21 million of its shares valued at N102.63 million.
  • UBA recorded 9.06 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N66.44 million.
  • GTCO reported 6.64 million shares valued at N130.99 million exchanged investors’ hands.
