Stock Market Hit N28.64 trillion Amid Rush For Conoil, Transcorp Shares

The stock market in Nigeria closed with N28.62 trillion market capitalisation on Tuesday, 9 May, against the N28.64 trillion reported on Monday, 8 May – it grew by 0.04 per cent or N14.09 billion.

The All-Share Index inched higher from 52,579.52 ASI to 52,605.41 ASI, as it gained 25.89 basis points. 

Equity traders exchanged 640.96 million shares, worth N7.132 billion, in 5,684 deals, on Tuesday. 

They traded more shares than the 511.38 million shares traded the day before in 5,883 deals, worth N7.139 billion.

Top five gainers

  • Conoil’s share appreciated by N4.40kobo to rise from N44 to N48.40kobo per share.        
  • Multiverse grew by N0.34kobo, up from N3.41kobo to N3.75kobo per share.        
  • John Holt ended trading with N1.91kobo from N1.74kobo per share, rising by N0.17kobo.      
  • CWG gained N0.14kobo to end trading at N1.59kobo, having opened with N1.45kobo per share.        
  • Transcorp’s stock was up by N0.17kobo, closing at N1.96kobo from N1.79kobo per share.          

Top five losers 

  • Unity Bank depreciated by 9.26 per cent, dwindling from N0.54kobo to N0.49kobo per share.           
  • Japaul Gold also fell by 8.82 per cent to end trading at N0.31kobo, after opening at N0.34kobo per share.           
  • Cutix followed the same path, losing N0.22kobo after trading hours, to sell at N2.28kobo from N2.50kobo per share.           
  • Nigerian Breweries reported a decline of N2.90kobo from the previous day’s share price of N35 to end trading at N32.10kobo per share.           
  • Academy share depreciated to N1.65kobo from N1.75kobo, after losing N0.10kobo during trading hours.  

Top five trading equities in the stock exchange 

  • Access Corp reported 129.72 million shares, valued at N1.48 billion, were traded on its floor.         
  • UBN recorded 91.11 million shares valued at N728.47 million.          
  • FBN saw investors trade 80.97 million of its shares valued at N969.53 million.          
  • Zenith Bank recorded 42.75 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N1.04 billion.           
  • NEM reported 33.64 million shares, valued at N153.08 million, exchanged investors’ hands.
