Stock Market Cap Loses N69bn As Meyer, Linkage Assurance Shares Plummet

Trading closed on a negative note on Wednesday, May 21, after a 0.10 per cent decline in the all-share index (AS) wiped off N69.99 billion from the stock market capitalisation.

Following the loss, the market capitalisation fell to N68.89 trillion from N68.96 trillion on Tuesday, May 20, as the all-share index shrank to 109,619.1 ASI from 109,730.47 ASI.

Investors reduced the value of shares traded on Wednesday to N12.99 billion after exchanging 664.15 million shares in 19,439 deals, compared to the N13.21 billion they parted with on Tuesday to trade 497.06 million shares in 18,795 deals.

Top five gainers

  • RT Briscoe’s share price increased by N0.19 kobo to rise from N1.90 kobo to N2.09 per share.
  • Eunisell’s share value grew by N1.15 kobo, up from N11.80 kobo to N12.95 kobo per share.
  • Livestock ended trading at N8.90 kobo per share, from N8.12 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N0.78 kobo.
  • Linkage Assurance gained N0.14 kobo to end trading at N1.62 kobo, having opened with N1.48 kobo.
  • Meyer’s share value was up by N0.80 kobo, after closing at N9.80 kobo from N9 per share.

Top five losers

  • Champion’s share price depreciated by N0.80 kobo, dwindling from N8 to N7.20 kobo per share.
  • Lasaco recorded a N0.28 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N2.52 kobo after opening with N2.80 per share.
  • MCNichols lost N0.24 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N2.30 kobo from N2.54 kobo per share.
  • Multiverse reported a decline of N0.70 kobo from the previous day’s share price of N9.70 kobo to end trading at N9 per share.
  • Sovereign Insurance recorded a 6.80 per cent decline in its share price to end trading at N0.96 kobo after opening with N1.03 per share.

  • Japaul Gold reported that 90.02 million shares valued at N186.47 million were traded on its floor.
  • Tantalizer recorded 82.74 million shares valued at N231 million.
  • Fidelity Bank saw investors trade 52.24 million of its shares valued at N1.25 billion.
  • Nigerian Breweries recorded 27.58 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N3.13 billion.
  • Custodian reported 36.49 million shares valued at N719.28 million exchanged in investors’ hands.
