'Squid Game: The Challenge' Contestants Seek Compensation

A legal battle is brewing for the producers of ‘Squid Game: The Challenge’ as a U.K. legal firm, Express Solicitors, has declared its intent to pursue legal action on behalf of contestants who suffered injuries during the filming of the reality competition.

Express Solicitors, a British personal injury firm, made the announcement on Thanksgiving Day, revealing that they have initiated the process by sending letters of claim on behalf of the affected contestants.

The firm alleges that the contestants faced unsafe conditions in the pursuit of entertainment, urging production companies to prioritize health and safety on their shows.

Daniel Slade, the CEO of Express Solicitors, emphasized the need for stringent safety measures, stating, “Production companies need to ensure that health and safety standards on their shows don’t leave people at risk of harm.”

Currently representing two contestants, the firm is in communication with other potential claimants and is gathering additional evidence before potentially filing a lawsuit.

The contestants, reportedly suffering from injuries such as hypothermia and nerve damage, attribute their plight to inadequate health and safety standards on the set during filming in January.

Express Solicitors has targeted Studio Lambert, the production company responsible for ‘Squid Game: The Challenge,’ seeking compensation for the contestants’ experiences.

Media reports have previously quoted anonymous contestants sharing harrowing experiences during the filming of the first episode’s intense game, “Red Light, Green Light.” Contrary to the show’s portrayal of a swift five-minute contest, the sequence was shot over several hours in freezing winter conditions, with temperatures reportedly dropping to 27 degrees Fahrenheit.

Contestants described the atmosphere as akin to a warzone, with some being carried out by medics. However, due to the intense competition, contestants felt compelled to remain silent about their struggles.

Slade shed light on the contestants’ expectations, stating, “Contestants thought they were taking part in something fun, and those injured did not expect to suffer as they did.” He recounted instances of participants enduring painful stress positions in cold temperatures, resulting in injuries with potentially serious long-term health implications.

Slade further highlighted cases of contestants receiving ill-fitting clothing despite the harsh weather conditions.
